May I begin by wishing all of you a Happy New Year. I am excited to start my year as your chapter president. As we anticipate all of the health care
changes looming in our future, I look forward to new and exciting times for us as emergency nurses, for Oregon and for our country. When I look
outside today I see blue sky and sunshine so I think that is a good start to the year.
Speaking of exciting times, we are truly fortunate to have the ENA Leadership Conference in Portland this year. The dates are February 16 – 20th.
The conference will have many well-known, highly acclaimed featured speakers as well as some fun times to network with peers. We also have the
opportunity to visit the Oregon Health Sciences Health and Healing Center, tour the Oregon State Police Forensic Sciences Division or do a historic
tour of the Portland underground tunnels. If you are planning to stay in Portland, make sure to make your reservations soon as things are filling up.
Visit the ENA website at www.ena.org for registration information.
Our first chapter meeting will be February 8th at 1800 at Salem Hospital. Please join us as we plan the coming year. I hope to see you there.

President Joyce Wilder @ the Oregon Gardens, Silverton, OR

The Mid Valley and Coastal (MVC) Chapter has been
growing since its start in 2002. We have over 140 members now and
meet on a quarterly basis at rotating locations.
Our member area is the same as the Area Trauma Board
2 and
includes hospitals in the following cities: Albany, Stayton, Lebanon,
McMinnville, Newberg, Dallas, Silverton, Corvallis, Salem, Newport
and Lincoln City. National ENA members in the ATAB 2 area are automatically
members of the MVC Chapter but any Oregon ENA member may request
to join our chapter.
The meetings start at 6 pm and go till 8 pm. This includes the business meeting as well as an educational presentation for one hour (worth one CEU-continuing education hour). We have had great presentations in the past such as "Pediatric Case Studies", "Labor & Delivery Survival Kit for ER Nurses", "Rhabdomyolysis: the Crush Injury Syndrome", "Medical forensics", "Methamphetamine Abuse", and "Go Granny Go. Outcomes in geriatric trauma". We also have a FUN DAY meeting usually in August and is just that -FUN! Recently we enjoyed the Aquarium in Newport which included some education and have been to the Oregon Gardens in Silverton. Check out the photos below and on the photo page.
In order to re-invest in our members, our meetings include 2 free drawings: a paid 1-year ENA membership (ENA members or non-members) and an education credit of $250 (ENA members only).
Everyone is welcome, including non-ENA members! Enjoy
the
speaker, light refreshments, have a chance at our drawings and
network with your emergency nurse peers.
If you are a current ENA member, assigned to the MVCC
and have given the ENA your email address you will receive an email
prior to each meeting and other updates as indicated. If you currently
do not receive these emails, please email Joyce Wilder to be added
to the email list.
